In the two months there has been a flurry of activity. Primarily of the teaching/learning sort. Added to the repetoir : Spindle spinning, crochet bead-making, and some minor jewelry design.

Spinning is soo much fun! It is as addictive as they say. (They being other spinners)  And learning the art of making crochet beads through the use of wire and yarn (also known as wiber) is a rather challenging experience, but no less fun.

I am planning on having a line of crochet jewelry available once I get the hang of the techniques. I’ve even come up with a name for the line, but that’s for another post.

The design for ravelry is finished. At the end of the month I will be adding  the pattern in some form either here or on the actual website.

It’s been quiet on the blog front for Picklesnot Design. A lot of things have been going on in the background that aren’t all that thrilling to write about.

I promise though that you will like what I have in the works. I’ll be writing more about it next week.

We haven’t disappeared. I promise. It’s just been very very slow the last couple of months. With the holidays finally over and things getting back to normal, Picklesnot Design has a lot planned for this year. Some of those things include: Gift certificates, a more selective but pared down choices for yarn, more hats and gloves…

The final piece of paperwork has been filed! No more worrying about not having the DBA filed.

Things have been quiet here at Picklesnot Design. Santa was sweet enough to bring us some new toys to play/experiment with. More information on that to come in a later post.

Wishing everyone happy holidays and a wonderful New Year.

Look for new and exciting things at the beginning of the year.

Not so much in the way of designing or creating at the moment. The last few days have found me organizing everything in such a way that I will be able to do more over the coming year. (It’s also helping me find everything I need to file my taxes)

The collection for Spring is coming along nicely. I will start prototyping them in January once the holiday season is over.

It’s already December!  Wow!  So The first week of December found me to be quite industrious. Picklesnot Design is participating in a Ravelry CAL Design for Fingerless Gloves. This is a long term project in which the pattern will be availabe in May. I am delving into some interesting techniques with this one. Here’s a sneak peek at a sample:

I also made some neckwarmers. One is made from the same yarn at the Driving Cloche and would make an excellent set to give for Christmas.  Here is a close-up of it. I really like the little flower that I made to attach to it :

grey-neckwarmer

I am having some difficulties locating buttons for the second neckwarmer though. The green is really hard to match apparently. But once I find those buttons…this has to be the softest neck warmer ever! It’s made with an alpaca/silk blended yarn :

green-neckwarmer

Both neckwarmers feature ruffles. The Grey one has a bottom ruffle while the green one has both top and bottom ruffles. I think the ruffles give the neckwarmer a more romantic feel to them. What I like most about them though is that they aren’t as bulky as a regular scarf would be when you wrap it around your neck. And it stays in place.

I also altered the driving cloche design to create a Banded Cloche. Here’s a side view :

The tweed stitch design of the band is accentuated nicely by the button detailing. For this particular hat I used the same type of yarn as I did for the Driving Cloche, just in a different color.

Naturally all of these are available for purchase. If it’s not listed in the shop you can place a custom order request either at the website or at the shop itself.

I promised some new pictures and here they are:

The Penny Savers:

The TBA:

And my newest hat- The Driving Cloche:

Wow. I so meant to post something earlier this week. A whole ten days + without letting you know what is going on. For shame on me!

This past week has been busy. Three new pairs of Fingerless Gloves have been made. Two of which are not my own design but of the wonderful CreativeYarns and Nichole Vervill. I unfortunately only have a picture of the pattern by CreativeYarns at the moment as once again my camera decided to crap out on me. (Needs new batteries)

Time For Tea

I am calling these particular gloves Time for Tea. This dainty design is made with a mohair blended yarn (Smart Mohair by Berrocco) in a light sage green color. Detailed at the wrist with a scalloped edge and a flower near the wrist. Fingerless, the glove fits a size 7 (which is considered XS, S) and is a two button glove.

Though I do not have a picture of the gloves designed by Nichole Verville here is my description: Made from The Dr. Horrible Inspired Glove pattern by Nichole Verville.  I am calling these gloves Penny Savers. These gloves are made out of a sport weight soft acrylic yarn in dark olive and ivory. The striped pattern gives it quite the punk feel.  Also a fingerless glove it fits a size 7 and is a three button glove.

Then there is my own creation which I have yet to name. A pair of gloves made of a soft sport weight acrylic yarn in dark olive.  Just as the others they are fingerless. Details include an open ribbed wrist and a row of “studs”. The glove fits a size 7 comfortably and is also a three button glove. The pattern for these will also be available for sale in the near future.

Gloves aren’t the only thing I managed to make in the last ten days. I’ve also added a hat to the catalog courtesy of Arianne Donoghue of azzywazzy. I expect that the versatility of Arianne’s design will make it quite popular. I present the Skater Cap:

As a matter of fact I think the Skater Cap and the Penny Savers are going to make quite the set. I really wish my camera were working right now. Really I do.

On the technical side of things, my laptop has been taken into the shop for repairs. It is unclear if it is simply a software issue or a hardware issue. There may well be issues with both. So I am sans laptop for two-three weeks. That’s a long time considering how mucch time I spend on it looking for inspiration and simply surfing.

It has come to my attention that I don’t have examples of hats for men in the current line up of hats. I will be fixing that in the next week or so. I am also not all that pleased with the lack of gloves I have to show case. Especially since I love making fingerless gloves. That will be remedied as well.  I’ve been working on a pair actually. I think that they will turn out quite nicely once I have them done. Here’s a sneak peak:

The previous gloves were shelved for the duration until I can find another fingering wieght yarn to use Let alone work out the rest of the pattern in a coherent manner.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I finally have the pattern for my Flower Flapper Headband available for purchase in the store!

Once purchased, a pdf file will be emailed to you. The pdf contains instructions on how to make the “traditional” band seen on my Flapper Flower Cloche as well as a more delicate mesh band.
